You can join TAMRISO either through manual registration by coming directly to our office or via an online link.

TAMRISO stands for the Tanzania Music Rights Society.

We uphold the value of our members’ music and help them thrive alongside the businesses that use their music every day.

You can join TAMRISO as a publisher if you (or your business, partnership, corporation, etc.) are actively engaged in the music publishing business and assume the financial risk involved in publishing music.

YouTube pays TAMRISO a licensing fee for the right to perform our members’ music in YouTube videos. We then distribute these fees to our members as royalties.

Performance royalties earned in foreign countries are an important source of income for many TAMRISO members. We have agreements with sister societies representing virtually every country that has laws protecting copyright.

A TAMRISO license allows music users to publicly perform copyrighted music legally, efficiently, and at a reasonable price, while compensating music creators so they can earn a living from their work. One license provides access to the entire TAMRISO repertoire – more than 15 million musical works.

TAMRISO is a membership association of more than 752 songwriters, composers, and music publishers. We uphold the value of our members’ music, and help them thrive alongside the businesses that use their music every day.

Joining TAMRISO is totally free for writers, and for anyone joining as both a writer and a publisher at the same time.

TAMRISO stands for the Tanzania Music Rights Society. It is a membership association that has over 752 composers, songwriters, music publishers, and lyricists from Tanzania.

TAMRISO was founded on the 21st day of July, 2023, in Dar es Salaam and has been operational from 21/07/2023 to 30/06/2024.

The Tanzania Music Rights Society (TAMRISO) has been operational following the amendment of the Copyright and Neighboring Rights Act (Cap. 218) of 1999, as amended in 2022. This amendment allowed for the establishment of Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) to be registered under the Companies Act of 2012. TAMRISO operates under the guidance of the Copyright Office of Tanzania (COSOTA) with the objective of issuing music usage licenses in Tanzania Mainland in accordance with the Copyright and Neighboring Rights (Collective Management Organization) Regulation, 2023, which prohibits a person from communicating to the public or reproducing a work in which copyright and neighboring rights subsist, except under a license issued by the society.

TAMRISO is owned and governed by its members, and the payment system and all changes are decided and approved by them.
